Over the past year, I’ve watched a tangled web of manipulation, half-truths, and behind-the-scenes sabotage distort the truth about my involvement in the Kurt Cobain case. I’ve stayed quiet out of respect for the seriousness of what we’re investigating — but it’s time to clear the air.
Let’s start with the accusation that I diverted money sent by a woman named Alana Moodie. I didn’t. The money Alana sent was intended to purchase a copy of Kurt Cobain’s autopsy from Gary Cobain — a sale Gary was independently pursuing. We hoped that sale might also encourage him to work with private investigator Jason Jensen, who believed Gary’s involvement would help bolster efforts to reopen the case.
Alana, who lives in Australia, couldn’t send the money directly to Gary. She sent it to me, and I passed it on — as requested, in cash. Gary didn’t want receipts. He didn’t want attention. He’s on disability, and this was his condition for agreeing to the sale. I honored his request. There is no paper trail because he didn’t want one — not because I kept anything. Lisa and I simply helped coordinate what Alana herself had initiated.
During this time, a man named Matthew Richer was acting as our liaison to Joe Burns. Matthew had been speaking to Joe for years, and at the time, we thought it was best to let him handle communication. Joe was understandably nervous, and we didn’t want to overwhelm him or make him feel pressured. We trusted Matthew to be a supportive intermediary. We shouldn’t have.
Behind the scenes, Matthew was manipulating everything. We later learned he was misrepresenting what we had planned for Joe’s interview — twisting the intent of the project and planting seeds of doubt. While Lisa brought in the videographer Nathan to film the statement, we paid for everything, including Nathan’s travel and even his passport so he could attend. We invested in this because we believed in the importance of Joe’s story — not because we wanted to control it, but because we wanted it heard.
There was never a formal contract with Jason Jensen. He didn’t pay for any part of the interview — not the filming, not the travel, not the production. At most, there was a verbal understanding that his team would receive a copy of the footage. But after all the manipulation and interference that unfolded, we made the decision not to share it. That wasn’t out of spite — it was a response to broken trust.
To protect Alana from further exploitation, we told Matthew she had sent less money than she actually had. We also told him she didn’t have any money left to give. That wasn’t because Alana said that to us — it was because we knew if he thought she still had funds, he’d pressure her. We had already seen how quickly he manipulated others behind the scenes, and the last thing we wanted was for him to start targeting someone who was emotionally vulnerable and already involved in a difficult situation. We didn’t lie to Alana — we lied to Matthew to protect her. That was self-defense on her behalf.
Unfortunately, Matthew later contacted Alana directly and convinced her she’d been scammed — and that’s where the smear campaign began. I understand Alana has serious mental health challenges, and I don’t say that to insult her — I say that to make it clear: she’s being used. And the people using her don’t care about her wellbeing — only their egos.
The person most aggressively pushing this false narrative is Dean Summers. Over the past year, Dean has:
• Stolen and re-uploaded our content without permission
• Publicly accused us of crimes with no evidence
• Harassed members of our team
• Threatened elderly family members of those involved
• Tracked down private individuals through Facebook and used personal information to intimidate them
He has no respect for boundaries, privacy, or the law — and frankly, we no longer feel safe interacting with him in any capacity.
Recently, he’s been spreading a baseless claim that Jason Jensen is planning to sue me. Jason is not a lawyer, and to date, I’ve received no legal notice, complaint, or filing. Just more threats, more noise, and more manipulation. If Jason is behind this, it’s disappointing — and if he’s not, then perhaps it’s time he speaks out against the people who are using his name to harass others.
Our working relationship with Jason ended when it became clear that individuals around him — particularly Matthew — were actively trying to turn Joe against us. After that level of interference and broken trust, we made the decision not to share our footage of Joe’s statement with Jason’s team. That wasn’t pettiness — it was self-preservation.
At one point, Jason shared a forensic handwriting analysis with me under a non-disclosure agreement. That analysis pertained to the alleged suicide note left by Kurt Cobain. I ultimately made the decision to share that report with the Seattle Police Department. Some may consider that a breach — I consider it an ethical obligation. When you have reason to believe a death scene was staged, and you possess relevant evidence, no NDA should override the pursuit of truth.
And for the record: Joe Burns came forward with his story long before we ever hit “record.” He wasn’t motivated by money. He was motivated by conscience. We covered the cost of documenting his statement because we believed it needed to be preserved and shared — not hidden in someone’s future film.
I’ve never stolen anything. I’ve never misled a witness. And I’ve never used someone’s mental illness or grief to manipulate them. I got involved in this case because something didn’t add up — and the more we’ve uncovered, the more it’s clear we were right.
I also know that some of these same individuals are now trying to weaponize my past business struggles to discredit this investigation. So let me address that too — before they try to twist it into something it wasn’t.
About a year and a half ago, I went through a business collapse. A major skincare brand I carried was acquired by a corporate giant, and after I placed a massive order — tens of thousands of dollars’ worth — they never shipped it. I was left empty-handed, and so were my customers. I did everything I could: offered refunds, updated everyone, and communicated non-stop. But one bad review triggered a cascade of panic. Shopify froze my payment processor, meaning I couldn’t issue refunds — even when I wanted to. So I told people to file chargebacks with their banks. Every single person got their money back.
I didn’t disappear. I didn’t dodge accountability. I rebuilt my business from scratch. That crisis doesn’t define me — and it certainly has nothing to do with my work on this case.
So instead of focusing on gossip, let’s talk about what actually matters.
Look at the work we’ve done. The autopsy analysis. The toxicology. The handwriting forensics. The ballistics testing. The hours spent reviewing first responder notes, shotgun mechanics, medical records, and scene photos. The conversations we’ve had with experts. The evidence we’ve submitted to police. The uncomfortable truths we’ve brought forward.
Then look at what these other people have done. Not one meaningful piece of forensic work. Not one expert consulted. Not one risk taken to uncover new information. Just smears, fake screenshots, vague threats, and nonstop harassment — all while we’ve stayed focused on the facts.
None of us have ever gone on the offensive. All we’ve ever done is try to get justice for Kurt Cobain. And for that, we’ve been targeted, harassed, and maligned by a group of absolute lunatics — with Matthew Richer pulling the strings behind the scenes so he can keep his hands clean.
So if you’re wondering who actually cares about this case, look at the work. Look at the consistency. Look at the evidence. And ask yourself: who’s trying to solve it — and who’s done nothing but stand in the way?
Apparently this vampire has no mirror...
How people like that can be such terrible people, do such horrible things to people, say horrendous things about people, selfishly manipulate people, and then look at themselves in the mirror, is beyond me!
I've said it elsewhere, but it bears repeating here - history will NOT be kind to these cretins, and the public will not be swayed by their "poor me" whining about exaggerated half truths, with their twisted imagination having run amok, tainting every story they tell with lies stacked upon lies...
Your light will turn these trolls to stone, preserving their ugly wickedness for pigeons to stand and shit upon for generations...
Good job, dumbass, you managed to ensure your legacy, forever to be remembered for all of your terrible behaviors and betrayals...
Meanwhile, you, Michelle, have secured your fate as the key person who cracked Kurt's case, pieced together the essential pieces that added up to an incredible case, created and led this amazing team, and has DONE the ACTUAL WORK!
While they're in desperate need of a new hobby, you're at the vanguard of changing history.
And you can frame THAT, too!
It saddens me that Matthew did that! I really enjoyed those interviews and thought he was great. I’m clearly not a good judge of character 😢.
